many people try to compare the army to the Marines. the SEALs to DELTA and the air force to the navy. can't do it. here is why. Marines primary objective is to storm beaches and hold them for the Army to move in. Marines are not as heavily armed going in for just beach storming. The Army like I said is designed to move in and conduct large scale military operations. DELTA varies from the SEALs in the way they operate. DELTAs primary role is counter terrorism but they can act on snatch and grab objectives to. SEALs specialize in clearing beaches and making way for the Marines. SEALs also operate under water demolitions objectives. The naval equivelent of DELTA is NSWDG. Naval Special Warfare Development Group. The Navy controls the high seas and exercises ship to ship engagements and carrying Marines. The Air Force controls the sky. yes the Navy has control of the sky over the ocean but the rest is under Air Force jurisdiction. hope this has helped

At first, when I read the title, I'm thought 'Oh no, there's a flame war ready to happen...'. But you did a nice job summing it all up, you might want to include combat controllers and green berets though, but still, good job +1.

thanks. yeah green berets mainly speciallize in training indigenous personell to fight and then advise. They also do some counter terror and stuff. Combat controllers work with almost every branch and provide air support also lastly are Rangers. They are essentially light infantry trained to a razor edge. There specialty is airfield siezure. Marine Force Recon pretty much does what there name says. recon.

while I agree that the different services are just that different, I believe that without the air force the rest of military could not and would not, survive in this day and age. The reason I say this is because the air force is able to do missions that other military units couldn't do. The air force also flies air to ground missions with the ugliest plane ever built the A-10 which is has been saving grace to men on the ground. Without an air force, you don't have a chance anymore

The airforce came out of the Army Air Corps, and the Navy has the same planes and more of em, but they serve their purpose

Saying the Navy has more "planes" is incorrect. The Navy aircraft differ in their mission and have different capabilities than the Air Force. Every branch is equally important.
