You have always had to be an officer to fly jets. in the army however uhuh. you just cant get past chief warrant officer. also you could enlist as an airman (thats equivelent to private in the army) and have the air force pay for you. and also as a jet pilot you will probably never score a air kill. The Iraqis didnt launch a single sortie during operation iraqi freedom. and all this is considering that they dont go to unmanned airel vehicles. i am as big an advocat of actual pilots in the plane but hey lifes sucks. I mean the marines are already buying there last new piloted vehicle the AH-1 zulu model of the cobra.

of course it all depends on what you wanna do in the military like sniper or tanker no college but ill take it anyway but jet pilot you need a degree in survival cuse they dont want any deedeedees flying jets and they look at a button theyve never seen and there like ohhh button they push it and he ejects and the jet crashes into our military base then when he lands hes like woahhhhh then the troops are like DIE and blast him to the depths of hades.

Well, my mom's been talking to a bunch of soldiers on her flights, and now she's pretty against me joining the Corps. She does have a decent point though, she says I should join the Army or Air Force (Ha! never gonna happen in a million years lol...) and do something better than ground infantry. So now I'm considering going Army, maybe as an officer after doing ROTC in college, maybe as a linguist (speak other languages), or perhaps I might go through Ranger school then get my Airborne wings. I'm not sure though, this is a pretty dramatic change. Maybe there's some cool job in the USMC that's better than infantry. So yeah, I'm going through some serious reconsideration here...
EDIT: Oh yeah, does anyone know why only officers (and usually senior ones) fly jets?

the fact is though is that in the marines no matter what you are a rifleman first which means you can always be sent into the meat grinder.

You could join the navy and be a navy seal. And all the branches fly jets so you could still go in the marines and fly jets or something to that effect

CAC006 your like the only one that wants to fly jets CAC001 wants to be "ground infantry" so yes he could be a seal but not for the jets. also every military branch has jets that the other branches dont

No, I don't want to fly jets. If I did, I'd go Marine Aviator. I don't necessarily want to be 'ground infantry' either, that was my main thought, but not anymore. SEALs training's way too hard, I wouldn't do that lol. I'm gonna look into officer jobs, and also an Army Linguist.

Yeah, glad you admit that SEALs are a bit hard. The dropout rate for SEAL recruits is 75%. Also, just for your information everyone, Army sniper school has an 80% dropout rate. Just some little facts. Not suggesting that it's too hard for anyone to get into, just that most people who want to join don't make it.

What branch are you planning on going into? In the Marine Corps you don't choose to be a sniper, you're chosen to be a sniper, do really well in boot camp, and get excellent marksmanship scores and you might be considered. I'm not sure about Army, but I think you can choose to go to sniper school. Can anyone confirm this? If so, I might consider that as another option... Oh yeah, I'd highly recommend you read the book 'Shooter' Cory, I don't know if I've told you about it, but it's really awesome. It's about modern sniping.
