Tokyo Marui AUG SR AEG
History
The Steyr AUG was developed for Austria in the late 1960s to replace the FN FAL rifle. It was first used by the Austrian military in 1977 and began production in 1978. Since then, it has been adopted by the armed forces of Austrlia, New Zealand, Oman, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Ireland. It is a bullpup rifle, with the magazine behind the trigger. This allows for a longer barrel in a shorter rifle. The AUG has three main versions: A1 with an integrated 1.5x scope, A2 with a scope rail and iron sights, and the A3 which has 4 RIS rails and a different type of charging handle.
Ordering
I ordered this gun, a Prometheus tightbore, and an extra magazine from Trinity Airsoft. Ordering was easy, and you get $10 off when you use Google checkout. They answered my questions quickly and well, and shipped my order promptly. I recieved the gun with its hop up assembly and inner barrel missing. Kevin at Trinity explained everything and apologized though, and now my barrel's being sent along with a battery for my troubles. Highly recommended.
First Impressions
This gun is very nice. I have previously held a BE AUG, and this is so much better, in every way. The plastic body is very nice, and sturdy. It's a pretty heavy gun, too. The whole upper receiver and outer barrel is all good quality metal. This is the first TM I have bought, and I'm certainly impressed.
Appearance
Feel/Build quality
The night of me getting this gun, my step-dad threw it about 30 feet across our yard (long story, he was angry). I thought it would be in pieces, but surprisingly there's just a small crack in the upper body and the dust covers aren't opening (planning on fixing this). Compared to my A&K M4 S-System that slid off a dresser and permanently broke, this gun is very durable.
Function
Performance
Since I don't have the inner barrel or hop up assembly yet, performance is to be determined.
Accessories and Modifications
The gun's name (SR) means Special Rail, so obviously this gun has a top rail. On it, you can mount a scope, red dot sight, the stock iron sights, or anything else you wish to. There's a Phantom barrel kit to lengthen the barrel and add RIS rails, plus a few RAS kits to make this AUG look like an A3 (what I plan to do). These kits add a bunch of rails to your gun, so while it may not be too great stock, there is a lot of upgrade potential in this gun.
