Well, I decided to make a topic where people could share good tactics with eachother, so feel free to post stuff. As for me, I found this on ASR, written by foxhound. I know it's long, but it has some nice stuff in it. Enjoy.
Introduction
When most people think of airsoft they think of kids playing with toy guns. Well it is nothing like that. Airsoft can be fun and danGerous. Here is a guide on everything you have to know to be the best airsofter in the world. I mean best. If you remember everything and learn many tactics you will become a better airsofter. You need the right equipment to be the best so I am going to start off by telling you what you need.
What you need to airsoft
The basic things you need to airsoft are a gun, bbs, full mask or goggles, and a couple of friends. When you start off airsofting you will need to buy a mask. This should be your first purchase or step to being the best. After you purchase the mask start searching on what gun to get. I would start off with a cheap spring pistol or rifle. I would recommend the UHC MP5 SD3. This is a great beginner’s gun but also have a lot of power and accuracy.
If you want to go straight into hard core I would recommend a gas pistol. Gas pistols are fun to shoot and one of the most powerful weapons stock ever created. There are many good gas pistols to choose from. You can hold your own with a gas pistol even against an AEG. I know from experience that you can do this because I have done this many times with my G19.
If you like the whole idea of a full sized replica airsoft gun then I would recommend an AEG. (Automatic Electric Gun) I would recommend for your first AEG you should get a Tokyo Marui. I’ve had a Tokyo Marui M4A1. I loved that thing. It is very powerful and accurate. One of the most dominant stock weapons on the field at anytime. All Tokyo Marui weapons fire about the same FPS. (Feet Per Second). Some weapons have different rate of fires or different battery type.
A Riflemen’s Tactics
Riflemen are a key part to win a battle. In the US army they carry a variant of the M4 usually. They mostly can do a lot of things. They put constant fire on an enemy and can fire almost none at all. Riflemen are a sort of all personnel. They are not as quiet as snipers but not as heavy bb poring as supportmen. Most people are riflemen. They are the average soldier in the army.
Snipers
What you need to be a sniper is rifle with a power scope and a radio. That’s mostly it.
Sniping is a whole different art of war. They rely on one shot per target. They do not make them selves noticed on a battle field, usually taking their shots from a far distance. They need to be hidden from anyone. If you are a sniper tell your team just to forget about you. Snipers should never take more than five shots at a person unless they are closer than 20 feet. Patience is the key to sniping. You must wait for a shot the whole time. Study the targets habits. When they duck back into their cover, if they like to take many shots, if they like to run into a danger or will they stay it out and wait. Every airsofter is different in some way. Sometimes you will not take a shot in the whole battle. That’s ok you did a fine job if that happens. You should tell your team where targets are so they won’t get caught off guard. Study the battle field. Think where would I go if I was on their team. Most of the time you will fine people going the same places if they work. Try to surprise you opponent at every possible chance. Never use the same hiding spot twice. Remember, one shot, one kill.
Supportmen
What you need to be a supportmen is an AEG with a drum magazine or a Hi-Capacity magazine.
Being a supportmen does not require a lot of aim. What your job is is mainly to give cover for your riflemen to advance. They never lead the way; they mostly trail behind the riflemen. Once you see a target fire on that target while your riflemen get position to get a better shot at him. Fire in bursts of about five. When the target sticks their head back up let off another burst. They will quickly learn to keep their head down. Then, there is your chance for your riflemen to make a move. Before they move have your sniper tell you if there are any targets that will interfere with the riflemen’s move.
The sniper will have to tell them quick. Then once confirmed there are not targets in the way he can move. The rifleman kills the target and your job is done.
Advancing
There are many different types of advancing. I will only talk about one. I refer to it as the “leapfrog”. One group in front fires while the other people move in front of him. Then you just repeat process. Mainly the people in the front are giving cover while the others make a run for new cover. The enemy will see the advancing men and come out of their hiding spots to shoot at them. This is the chance for the people covering them to shoot the enemy. I have used this process many times.
Defense
Defending an area has a lot more of advantages than attacking an area. You can set up ambushes and hold off double your numbers. When setting up make sure you have every area of entrance covered. Think of where your enemy will take cover. Think of where you will go if the enemy retreats. Think of where you will go if your team retreats. Try to setup an ambush. If the ambush works you must advance to help the people that ambushed. Usually when they fire at the enemy for the first time they are surprised. Your team mate will most likely not have the best spot so you need to move yourself to help him. Signal your team over to come with you. This could scare the enemy away and you’ll send them off running. If it doesn’t work you will have to give support for him to run back into cover. This will start the tempo of the battle high. If he makes it back alive, he is lucky. Also you can pretty much tell that this war will go down to the final draw.
Attacking
Attacking is much harder than defending. When moving in a group do not stay bunched up. If you have ever played team video games they always stay together in a straight line. Do not do this. One burst of a full auto weapon can take you all out. You will have to be aware or your surroundings. Look for things that look out of place. Examples are bushes moving when there is no wind and no one firing at you when you are an open target. This can be scary because it seems out of place. Well you won’t have much time to think about it because you prolly just fell right into their trap. If you don’t get shot right away the best thing is to look for cover and just dive for it. Literally I have dove straight into brush I had no idea what was behind it and it was another player. I some how shot him and I lived to tell the story. Look for possible ambushes. Before you start shooting locate as many enemies as possible. Try new things and do not do the same thing twice. Mix up your shots. Surround your target. Make him feel like there are one million enemies shooting at him when there is only you. Keep moving and don’t stay in one spot.
Unfair Teams I
If you start a game 8 on 8 and your eight takes out seven of theirs and you only lose one team mate. You know you are going to win. But the other one person has one objective, to take out as many people as possible. All your team has to do is just surround this sucker and rush him at the same time. He is finished unless he can wipe a pistol at seven different targets in less than three seconds.
Staying positive is incredibly important. However, I have, on multiple occasions, beaten teams on my own after losing my entire team at the start of a round.
Some other opinions:
I don’t support rushing targets, but I was trained with real bullets. I prefer to form up. Surround and contain your enemy, then close distance, advancing on a base of fire, until you have a shot.
Unfair Teams II
If you start a game 8 on 8 and your team loses seven men but your team kills one enemy you know you are going to lose. But you should stay positive. Don’t stay in one place. If you do you will be surrounded and be shot rapidly. If you keep moving the enemy cannot setup a plan to surround you. If you are surrounded but they are at a far distance you can still rush them before they can close in on you. Think quick and make a dash firing at the smallest group. If you take him out, retreat into a spot to ambush someone. Keep moving and try to keep ambushing people. You will most likely be shot or surrounded but you should have a little fun and put up a fight.
Some other opinions:
You’re alone, there are 8 enemies all around you. Priority 1: Escape and Evade. Take things one step at a time. Get the hell out of dodge first, then plan your next move.
Priority 2: Prepare yourself. Check your ammo. You have to be prepared to get 8 kills. You’re going to want at least 4 mags ( unless you’re a sniper, in which case you’ll want to find an AEG and some ammo ). If you don’t have 4 mags, get them. Find a fallen teammate, take their ammo.
Priority 3: High ground. Locate an elevated sniper position, be as quiet as possible. Don’t be stupid. If all 8 of your oponents are right together, unless you can take out 5 or more of them in a single burst if fire, don’t take the shot. Wait until you have an isolated target, or two guys walking close together. Eliminate them, then relocate, even if the enemy doesn’t know where you are.
Start small. You have to neutralize several targets to even things out.
Patience is your friend. Stay still when the enemy doesn’t know your position. Take them down one at a time. Patience is your best friend when you’re alone.
Advancing II
Before you send part of your team to move up you should radio in your team to give cover fire for about five to fifteen seconds depending how long the advancement is.
Once the order is given have the team fire for a second or two and then move. If you move before they fire the other team has a chance at hitting you. Make sure you know exactly where you are going to go. You don’t want to get confused in the middle of a huge battle. You can easily try to trick the other team into thinking someone has moved into an area. First, you find each and every target in range. Then you select one soldier on your side to aim at one of their people. Give the order to fire and have the guy run half way there and continue to fire. Once he is half way have him hit the deck and hide so no one can see him. This way the enemy will think you have moved into an area you haven’t.
The idea of attacking is advancing. To keep the enemy under constant fire is easier than it looks. First find the entire enemy you can then try and surround them by using tactics stated above to move your team around them. Stay low as much as possible so you will become harder to find and a harder target.
If you have an enemy in a bunker/foxhole then you should keep a strong fire on this object. Spread your team out more so it seems like there are 100 guys attacking when there is only about six. Have each person try to come from an exposed area. If the obstacle is completely surrounded in cover then fire where they shoot at you from. This might be your only chance at getting them.
Defense II
Defense is easier unless you don’t know your playing field. Make sure to know where the enemy comes from, where are the best spots to hide, and most importantly how to defeat them. In defense you don’t want to be all bunched up but you don’t want to be to far from each other that you can’t move to them easily. Don’t give away your position until they shoot at you more than once and their shots are very accurate. If they don’t know where you are there is a huge physiological difference between your team and theirs. Your team will know where they are because they are looking for you. You are not moving and trying to find them. Just find a clearing to fire and stay there until they see you. Then you should be able to fire back. Don’t let your other team fire because they don’t know where they are yet. Make sure you don’t fire at them when you have no shot. Look for small braches that your shot could hit or other obstacles that it may hit. Before you shoot your very first shot know that you are going to hit them. Stay low and if you have to talk to your team try and signal them instead of normal talking. Also don’t make your ambush spot too noticeable. If they see a garbage can moved or a piece of ply wood moved they will know it has been moved. Never get lazy. Always keep an eye on what you are supposed to be watching.
No Defense or Offence
When you start at different sides of a field and when the horn blows you take off you must try to push the other team back to where they came from. When you are in a huge battle and bbs are flying around you make sure you know what is happening. Organize your team and try to set up an offensive. Tell you whole team to charge except the “support” people when the signal is given. Once it is give have the supporters continue to fire at the enemy while everyone else charges and fires also. Don’t try to be accurate as possible just send some bbs into their area. You may loose one or two men but the ground you just took over is very worth it. The other team may get scared and start to retreat. Don’t stop at your position now keep on pushing them forward. Make them feel like they are constantly moving backwards. This will get them thinking they are loosing. Make sure when you advance you don’t run into a trap. Know where you are going to go and if there are people in the vicinity. Continue to fire at the other team. Try to pair up with a guy that is close to you so you can talk and give support. Also with your “partner” use the leapfrog tactics stated in “Airsoft Tactics I”. Focus your partners and your fire at one target so you will get him out easier. If you don’t get him out then you will defenetly have him pinned down. Make sure you don’t have two snipers together. Seperate the riflemen with the snipers and supportmen.
If both teams used the tactics I stated above the team that used them smarter will win. Remember have fun with airsoft.
One thing about hand signals:
When your point man gives a signal, the guy behind him does the same signal to the guy behind him and so on. This is very important.
When patrolling together, in a stacked position, or any position, look back about every 15 seconds to make sure everyone is fine.
If you are walking on a path or similar, stay close to the edges where you can seek cover quickly, never walk in the middle.
Once you are fired upon, everyone should take a knee immediately. Know where your enemy is. Whoever sees te enemy should say ENEMY FRONT or something similar to give everybody an Idea of where the enemy is.
Just a little updated and put more on top so people could see what it was.
Sniper Tactics I
Being a sniper isn’t just being a good shot and being “cool”. It requires a lot of patience, love for what you do, and most of all perseverance. You must always be on the watch and have the awareness of a NFL linebacker. You must understand wind, heat currents, types of bushes, smells, and other things of nature that most wouldn’t expect to be an attribute of being a sniper.
One of the most famous Marine Snipers is Carlos Hathcock. He was involved with Vietnam for two terms of service to the Corps. I respect this man as more than a sniper who recorded over 90 kills in his service to the Corps. He also trained snipers and commanded over a sniper platoon that recorded more kills than a whole battalion.
Now we get into more of the most difficult information to understand. I am not going to tell you how to sight in your scope or read the wind to dial in your scope for the perfect shot. Simply it isn’t worth it in airsoft unless you have like a 1,000 sniper rifle that is upgraded to the max. Stalking is basically watching someone for hours on end without them even having a clue you are there. You must move with them never looking in your direction. When your enemy is looking in your vicinity do not move an inch. Keep him in your scope for the whole time he is looking at you. If it seems as if he sees you, you might want to fire at him or one other enemy. My best tactic is shooting the one with the best equip weaponry. This will make it easier in the long run killing the other enemies. For real sniping you should take out the one with the pistol belt or radio thing on his back. There are two things you don’t want to give your enemy. One is command, the other, radio. With a radio the enemy can radio in mortar, air strikes, reinforcements, or tanks. As a sniper you cannot afford taking many risks. You need to get in do your job and get out.
Sometimes as a sniper you are just a scout. You must go out in front of everyone alone and find where the enemy is located. This is not a very good job in my opinion because you are on the offensive. As a sniper I have never found it good to be on the offensive or doing anything that is quick movement. If you have to move from a spot you must crawl slowly and deliberately. As a scout you must find the information and then get your self out of danger or even being sited. If an enemy sees one scout he will know there is more coming so he may let you live so the enemy can set up an ambush for your fellow friends and companions.
Sniper Tactics II Concealment:
Concealment is a key in being a successful sniper. To prepare your self to make a kill or go into a game you should at least stick leaves, pine tree branches, or anything else that you can find to fit into your helmet or gun. Using green colored rubber bands to hold in branches is a great idea. It camouflages your gun well and looks just like a branch coming out of a tree. You can also use that tactic with your helmet. For your skin you can use face paint and just rub a little all over your unprotected areas. It works fine and is only like two dollars at most stores you can find them at.
When you have all your camo on and you are ready to start your long wait for a target it is best to try and look like a tree or a bush. If there is a bush close to where you want to set up go there and either lay next to it or even try to move some branches so you are almost in the bush itself. Plan to know where you think the enemy has good cover and where they will come from. If you see any sort of glitter or movement that is enough to tell you someone or something is there. Keep your main eye point at the spot where you first saw the movement. You can stray away to watch your flanks but always come back to that same spot because you have to be more patient than the enemy. Once you have located your enemy do not rush the shot. That is one of the biggest mistakes I have seen people I spot for do. They get tired of waiting and try to make a 1/5 shot. Try to study their movements so you know exactly when they will pop up and for how long. Once they are in a bad spot take advantage of it. Take a deep breath and slowly but deliberately pull the trigger until you have the report of your rifle.
If you hit your target you have two options to take. One is to stay low and make sure the enemy doesn’t see you. The second is to quickly have your spotter and you take out and pin down as many enemies as possible. If they don’t know where you are there is a good chance they will think there are more than two of you there. The surprise and shock of just being hit without even hearing an AEG or GBB sound will stun them just for a millisecond where your spotter can fire right after you do. Or you can synchronize your shots to make them go off at the same time but that isn’t a good idea because like I said before you can’t rush your shots.
If you miss that doesn’t mean you have to run. You are a sniper and you have the advantage of knowing where the enemy is and how many there are. Just like if you hit have your spotter take some well placed shots with his weapon and pin down as many enemies as you two possibly can. Expect them to run. If they do run be ready to hit at least one enemy.
