So, I've heard many times that the XM8 (I think that's what it's called) is going to replace the M16 as the standard assault rifle for the military. Any confirmation on this, or further news?

Wow, I just ran across this on the ASR forum- "So, I heard from my ROTC buddy that SOCOM is going to replace the m4 with a gun called the SCAR, which will have different variants to fire either the 5.56 or 7.62 rounds. Anyways, I think its sort of ugly, but it could probably grow on me. But anyways, this means a new airsoft gun soon..." Here's a link to the gun- world.guns.ru/assault/as70-e.htm. Personally, I think it's ugly, but that caliber exchange thing looks interesting. |

That's ugly? It looks just like the Sig 552 to me...  I suppose it looks a little like the Galil too.  I like the idea of interchanging barrels for calibers, like the Sako Quad. With the ability to fire 7.62, AK magazines could (hopefully) be used in exchange, to keep the soldiers armed and using the gun they were sent over with. |

world.guns.ru/assault/scar-l_eglm.jpgThe SCAR to me is the awesome and sleek. I think it looks cool. especially with the EQLM grenade launcher. Oh on the XM8 it essentially a G36 with a different stock. The Army isnt as sure about it anymore but they may still go to it.

dont quote me on this but I think there are just three different varients of the gun. The 5.56mm the 7.62mm and the 5.56mm close quarters battle varient with a silencer.
The m8 is modular system with interchangeable barrels for a sniper a rifle a machine gun and a grenade launcher. varient.
I have been looking around and the XM8 project has been cancelled by the military. So has the M29. reason, I really don't know currently. I heard with the M29 OICW that there were to many glitches in the system that could cause problems for soldiers in the field

The XM8 is the G36 made to look a little cooler. The SCAR is a rifle that can quickly be made to accept a different caliber. What makes the XM8 a better choice than the SCAR?

Maybe the integrated scope is a big bonus for some, personally the XM8 looks a bunch better than the SCAR so that would probably also affect my choice. I wish there was a quality airsoft XM8 AEG... The best out there is the HFC, I believe. Does anyone else know of decent XM8s?

i knwo of one that shoots 380 or so but i'd have to agree the varients of the XM8 give it its look and views alot different then the variants of the SCAR
